Chronology:

9 December 1960 - 3 March 1961: Broadcast twice weekly (Wednesday and Friday). The Friday episode was broadcast live, and the episode for the following Wednesday was recorded immediately afterwards (after a 15 minute break).

1960 - 1968 - 'Exterior' street scenes were filmed in a soundstage, with the house facades built in wood at 3/4 scale.

6 March 1961 -  1969: Programme broadcast across the ITV network on Monday and Wednesday. The last regular episode to be broadcast live was transmitted on 3 February 1961.

1968 - The wooden facades are moved into a new exterior location,

29 October 1969 - Episode 923 was prepared to be broadcast in colour. In the event, colour film could not be obtained for exterior scenes (for a coach trip to the Lake District) so it was broadcast in black & white. The next episode, on Monday 3 November, was taped in colour, but featured black and white film inserts and title sequence.

Test recordings in colour continued although the programmes were broadcast in monochrome. The first transmitted colour episode was 17 November 1969.

1970s (?date) - The wooden sets were replaced with brick facades, and back yards were added to the houses.

1982 - A full street set was built on the Granada backlot, constructed from reclaimed Salford brick.

1989 - The set was updated with the construction of a new factory, two shop units and three modern town houses on the south side of the street.

1989 - 1999 - Granada Studios Tour enabled members of the public to visit the set (the tour didn't operate on Monday, when filming was in progress).

1999 - The exterior street set was extended and updated when the Tour facilities became vacated. Rosamund Street and Victoria Street were added, along with a viaduct on Rosamund Street. The majority of interior scenes are shot in the adjoining purpose-built studio.

2008 - Victoria Court, an apartment building full of luxury flats, was started on Victoria Street.

7 January 2002 - Episode 5191 was the first to be broadcast in 16:9 widescreen format.

22 March 2010 - Episode 7351 was the first to be broadcast in HD (1080/50i).
