Cronenburg employed complex motion control technology to use fluid camera movements and split screens with moving matte lines to portray the twins, both played by Jeremy Irons. The motion control equipment was noisy rendering all of the dialogue from the set unusable - all of it had to be re-recorded on an ADR stage.
