It was during the pilot of Stingray that Stephen J. Cannell Productions was introduced to the advantages of filming in Canada. The first few episodes were filmed in Calgary, but due to the weather, production was moved to Vancouver. The decision was then made to purchase land and build a studio and base most production in Vancouver.
