Alfred Hitchcock had barely got his feet under his new desk at Universal after moving from Paramount, when he was directing the greatest horror movie ever made. Psycho was made on a shoestring budget using many locations around the Universal backlot and soundstages.
The Psycho House was built just up the hill from Singapore Lake. It moved twice before settling in it's current location near Falls Lake. The interiors for the Psycho House were shot on Stage 28. The Bates Motel interiors, including the shower scene, were shot on Stage 18.
