Bates Motel

Along with the Psycho House (aka the Bates Mansion), the Bates Motel buildings have been moved around the backlot since the original shoot in 1960.

Bates Motel

The Bates Motel interiors, including the shower scene, were shot on Stage 18. The exterior set has been rebuilt a few times over the years, and as can be seen below, was refurbished in 2006.

Norman Attacks the Tram

Starting in 2008, Norman Bates has been hanging around the motel and can sometimes be seen by tourists on the Studio Tour tram passing by. Occasionally they catch him moving things around…

The infamous shower scene and Bates Motel interiors were shot on Stage 18. Stage 28 was used for the interiors of the Bates house (the Psycho house). The Psycho House and Bates Motel were originally built close to Singapore Lake (now Jaws Lake) and Laramie Street during production. The house has been in three different locations around the backlot in total.
